ASSIMILATING PERSONS INTO RUMC
As RUMC grows it becomes more difficult to make sure that “no one stands alone”. So to that end, RUMC has adopted the Small Group Ministry model of connecting individuals into the life of the church. Thus the reason for the following New Member Ministries beginning in a small group setting & getting a person connected.
Doorstep Visitation Program
After a person's first visit to RUMC, Bread is delivered to their door to express gratitude for their attendance that Sunday.
Pre-Member Classes
Pre-member classes are offered four times a year, for those persons wanting to be formally connected to Roscoe United Methodist Church. To be scheduled in a pre-member class, call the church office at 623-2292.
Alpha Groups
New members are connected to RUMC as a member of an Alpha Small Group after a new member is received into our church family. This group is given the choice to either take classes once a month for 6 months, on the bible, faith sharing, stewardship, prayer and Methodism in a classroom setting; or meet with their group in a leader’s home for a Beginnings Class. Beginnings may also be taken before a person decides to become a member.
Beginnings
Beginnings presents the basics of Christian faith in a way that is comfortable & inviting. It is designed not only for people that are seeking but also for those who are new, or Christians wanting to get back to the basics.
doesn't preach but instead gives people a place to talk, discuss, and ask hard questions that don’t always have easy answers. The format is simple. Each time they meet, group members read a chapter in the companion book on their own and then come together at a leaders home to view a thought-provoking video. They discuss such questions as "Why am I not where I want to be? or "What happen when I die?" and seven other thought provoking topics. The program takes about 1 1/2 hrs - meets twice a month and can be completed in as little as nine meetings or 5 months.
At the conclusion of the Alpha group. A person would then either stay with that group or go on to another small group that is offered thru the church. There is a Beginning II Class if an Alpha member would like to continue on with the same format as Beginnings I called "The Spiritual Life". This class deals with spiritual disciplines such as Loving; Courage; Simplicity; Giving; Trusting, serving etc.
If you have questions, please call the church office at 623-2292.
