Mission Ministry

Roscoe United Methodist Church is involved in many different mission outreach programs, from the local Old Stone Food Pantry and Rockford Habitat for Humanity to regional, national and international programs. Each month different programs receive our focus and support.

Loose Coin

Our loose coin offering for the month of May will be given to Rockford Urban Ministries, an outreach ministry that works to transform and rehab the dilapidated area of inner city Rockford. RUM also supports efforts for a Shalom Zone, trying to bring and maintain peaceful neighborhoods. RUM is active in social justice reforms in many areas and also sponsors JustGoods, a fair trade store that sells items from missions and co-operatives around the world.

Blanket Sunday

Mother’s Day, May 11th, is designated as Blanket Sunday. A special offering for Church World Service is taken on that day. This money is used to purchase tools and blankets for those, around the world, who are suffering from disasters, due to famine, wars, floods, etc. If you are not in church on May 11th, you may still donate to this program by sending your check to RoscoeUnitedMethodistChurch, and note it is for “blanket Sunday.” Donations will be taken throughout the month of May.

Soup Kitchen

RUMC will be serving lunch at the JubileeCenter for the homeless, in Rockford, on Saturday, May 17th. Volunteers and donations of food are needed. A sign up poster is in the church foyer.
